The Ultimate Travel Electronics Packing List 2025

must have travel electronics

After traveling the world full-time for over two years, one of the things that remained pretty consistent throughout our entire trip was the gear we carried in our electronics bag. It has traveled with us through airports, tuk-tuks, remote towns, and dreamy getaways— helping us stay connected, capture memories, and keep our work and content flowing.

In this post, we’re sharing the ultimate travel electronics we’ve carried from day one, plus a few recommendations we’ve picked up from fellow travelers along the way. Whether you’re a casual traveler, a backpacker, or someone looking to document their entire journey, we are sharing all the tools you need to get started!

Our Travel Electronics Bag Breakdown

Our Electronics Backpack

The number one mistake we made regarding our electronics was not investing in a quality bag to carry it all. We were under the impression that if we spread the heavy items between our big backpacks and only carried what was necessary in a lightweight daypack, that it would be okay— we were wrong.

To help you avoid the mistakes we made, here’s a highly rated, affordable, and reliable mid-range option.

Laptop – MacBook Air

Our most valuable item for many reasons — especially for uploading photos, editing videos, and building our blog.

We opted for a MacBook Air instead of a MacBook Pro because of the weight, size, and price difference. We wanted something high-quality that would still be easy to carry and meet the functions we needed.

Tip: Make sure to use a sleeve or case to protect your laptop, here is a lightweight option we use.

Drone – DJI Mini 3 Pro

This is by far one of our best investments for so many reasons. Drones truly change how you capture and share while traveling the world and it has made a huge difference on how we create content.

Our first drone was the DJI Air, which lasted a few years prior to crashing into the ocean in the Philippines. After that we opted for the DJI Mini 3 Pro because it’s high quality footage, lightweight, meets many countries’ size regulations, and can shoot in vertical and horizontal modes.

Note: These are probably the most popular picks among travelers the DJI Mini 4 Pro and DJI Air 3S.

Camera

In a world where we all have a phone camera at our fingertips, carrying a digital camera can seem silly. However, for those who love photography and high-quality images, like we do— an actual camera really makes a difference.

We started with the Canon 77D, but we’re due for an upgrade soon. We’re exploring a few highly recommended options favored by fellow travelers and photographers:

Other recommended options include:

GoPro

Having a GoPro is a bonus, as it’s one of those cameras you can literally take anywhere because of its size and quality. It’s extremely useful for high-action and underwater footage, and many vloggers use this solely as their basic starter camera.

Note: Though we love ours, we don’t use it often as we capture mostly on our camera, drone, or phones.

Many people are now converting to DJI Osmo Action, Osmo Pocket 3, and Insta360. All of which have been said to have just as good, if not better quality and efficiency than the GoPro.

Kindle Paperback

A Kindle is a no-brainer for readers and a staple for us. Not only is it extremely lightweight, but it’s also the easiest and most compact way to read while traveling.

Our favorite hack is renting digital library books from our local library and syncing them to our Kindle Paperback — allowing us to read for free, no matter where we are in the world.

External Hard Drive

External hard drives may seem unnecessary, but they’re extremely valuable. If you’re editing photos or videos, this is a must-have for storage. Though you can store everything on the cloud, having this gives you extra backup in case something goes wrong.

Note: If you’re not capturing or transferring a lot of footage to your computer, using a cloud backup service may be enough for you.

Portable Charger

This portable charger has been our holy grail and life-saver so many times along our travel journey. It’s by far the number one thing we recommend— whether you’re capturing content or not.

We love the this brand, as it’s proven to be extremely reliable, medium weight, and fast-charging. It is one of the few items we NEVER travel without.

AirTags

AirTags give us that additional peace of mind every traveler craves. We pop them on our backpacks, electronics bag, and daypacks to keep track of where all our items are.

They are especially useful since we often leave our belongings in hostels, check them at airports, or toss them under the bus on long rides.

Tip: Lost luggage? These little trackers help us keep track of where our bags are at all times.

Universal Adapter

Adapters are one of the most forgotten essential among travelers. While you can often find them on the road, we always carry our own guaranteed quality option. Since we constantly move from place to place, we opt for the Apple World Kit because of its reliability.

However, there are many other popular options available, click here to see our backup.

SD Cards & Readers

SD cards are a must if you have cameras or drones, so it’s important to carry one for each device— and a few extras as backup just in case. We personally use Sandisk and find them to be reliable.

Note: Most laptops no longer have SD compartments, so you’ll also need an SD card reader. We use one that’s compatible with USB-C ports on MacBooks.

Electronic Cable Bag and Accessories

There are many other small items we carry such as AirPods, wall adapters, charging cables, small organizational pieces, etc. We use this exact electronic tech organizer to keep everything from cables to SD cards in one spot.

Here are a few other essentials we carry in that cable bag:

How We Keep Our Gear Safe and Organized

If you got to this point, you might be wondering, do we really carry all of this with us while traveling the world? The answer is yes. And yes, it can get heavy— depending on how well you distribute it.

We keep things safe by packing each fragile item in its own case, sleeve, or shell (like our laptop and drone). We also use locks and AirTags to protect our bags as much as possible.

Our biggest tip? Always keep your electronics on you while in transit. Avoid checking them in or storing valuables where they can be damaged or stolen.

Final Thoughts on Travel Electronics

Just a reminder— your gear doesn’t have to be fancy nor do you have to have so much of it to capture beautiful moments. We’ve met people who travel solely with their phone or a GoPro and make it work.

Whatever you choose, make sure it’s fun and useful for you. The good thing is you can always upgrade along the way.
